Workshops for Kids & Adults
Don’t have time to take a full class? No problem. You can make a project, have some fun and express your creative side — in just 3-4 hours on a Saturday in the PFI Event Center.
Choose individual sessions or pay a membership fee and choose from multiple sessions.
We have sewing sessions for kids and fashion workshops for adults. Visit the Portland Fashion Supply store next to the classroom for any tools, notions and fabric you need.
Sewing machines provided during workshop time; no need to bring your own. Sessions are limited. Register by 2 days before session takes place to save your spot.

Workshops for Kids
WORKSHOPS FOR KIDS & TEENS ages 8-14 💃🕺 Welcome to Katy’s PlayHouse!
Wednesdays, 3:45-6 pm.
Learn to sew! Become friends with a machine, learn basic stitches fearlessly and have fun! In every session, you will get to know your sewing machine then go on to make fun and useful projects for yourself and as gifts. No sewing experience is required. Fee includes handouts, fabric and thread.
Visible Mending / Sashiko
Fourth Saturday of every month, 2-5 pm
Make whatever you are fixing a work of art with Japanese style. Discover methods to repair pants, shirts, jackets, any woven garment in a beautifully visible way.

Fashion Life Drawing
Saturday, June 6, 2-5 pm
Welcome to fashion illustration using a live, styled model. Learn to see and draw like a designer.
Pattern Hacking Fun
Second Saturday, 2-6 pm, of every month
Let’s hack our patterns and add some fun details: Ruffles, pockets, collar and sleeve details plus those pesky dress shirt cuffs and gauntlets.
Alterations and Mending
Third Saturday, 2-5 pm of every month
Do you have a favorite garment that just needs a little love? You have the right to repair!

No prior experience is necessary—just curiosity, a willingness to experiment and have fun.
Pattern Grading. Add sizes to your patterns!
Solve the mystery of adding sizes to your patterns, digitally.
Four sessions: Saturdays May 21-29, 2-5 pm
Take PFI’s Optitex class. Then use your patterns to learn the basic principles of changing pattern sizes. Learn the inside secrets of increasing and decreasing sizes and standards for grade rules. Create your own grade rules for cardinal points. Apply these principles to pants, skirts, sleeves and bodices, knits and wovens.
